Description
WWII USMC M1 FB Helmet w/ Reversible Frogskin Cover. U.S. WWII M1 Steel Helmet, High-Pressure Composite Liner, and Reversible USMC-Style Frogskin Camouflage Cover, circa 1943-1945 This lot presents a complete World War II M1 combat helmet assembly, comprising a fixed-bail manganese steel shell fitted with its high-pressure composite fiber liner and dressed in a reversible herringbone twill "frogskin" camouflage cover of the type issued to United States Marine Corps personnel across the Pacific Theater. The interest here rests in the material integrity and correct configuration of a scarce and instantly recognizable form of American combat headgear. Standardized in 1941 to replace the World War I-era M1917A1 ‘Kelly’ helmet, the M1 was designed with an outer manganese steel shell and an inner composite fiber liner to provide modular protection and versatility.
