Description

Full catalog title: WWII German Luftwaffe M38 Fallschirmjaeger Paratrooper Helmet. Exceptional original WWII German Luftwaffe M38 Fallschirmjaeger paratrooper helmet, one of the most distinctive and highly collected combat helmets of the Second World War. Developed specifically for German airborne troops, the M38 eliminated the projecting skirt of the standard Wehrmacht helmet and incorporated a compact rounded shell designed to reduce interference during parachute jumps. The helmet retains its dark field-gray combat finish and a single Luftwaffe eagle-and-swastika decal to the left side, the decal remaining exceptionally clear with strong detail. The exterior exhibits scattered abrasions, scratches, handling wear, and minor areas of finish loss consistent with period service and age.
The interior is particularly noteworthy and retains the characteristic M38 Fallschirmjaeger leather liner and multi-point chinstrap suspension system. The liner is clearly marked "Kopfweite: Gr. 57 / Stahlhelm-Gr. 68", identifying a size 57 liner fitted to a size 68 helmet shell. Additional markings read "Baumuster: Heisler, Berlin C2 / Hersteller: F.W. Mueller Jr.", a documented wartime manufacturer associated with M38 Fallschirmjaeger helmet liners. Comparable documented original M38 helmets are known with precisely this Heisler/F.W. Mueller Jr. marking configuration. The helmet retains the characteristic padded liner assembly, black leather harness straps, metal hardware, and the distinctive external vented attachment bolts associated with this pattern.
The M38 became synonymous with German Fallschirmjaeger operations, including the airborne assaults in Norway, Belgium and Holland, the Battle of Crete, fighting in Italy, Normandy, the Ardennes, and the defense of Germany. Period photographs show the distinctive low-profile M38 worn extensively by German paratroopers throughout the war. Original examples with substantially intact factory finish, Luftwaffe decal, correct liner, chinstrap assembly, and readable manufacturer markings are increasingly difficult to obtain.
This example presents exceptionally well, with a strong original-appearing exterior finish, highly visible Luftwaffe decal, complete interior assembly, and desirable F.W. Mueller Jr./Heisler Berlin C2 marked liner. The exterior shows honest service wear while the interior leather remains remarkably complete. A highly desirable and visually impressive example of the iconic German M38 Fallschirmjaeger helmet and an important addition to an advanced airborne, Luftwaffe, or WWII militaria collection. Please review all photographs carefully for condition and construction details.
