Fall 2026 Militaria and Aviation Auction
Lot 461:
Description
Offered is an original WWII German Army (Heer) Model 1935 steel combat helmet. The M35 was the first standardized steel combat helmet of the rearmed German military and is distinguished by its rolled rim, separate ventilation bushings, and classic deep-skirt profile. The steel shell retains a dark field-gray finish showing honest service wear, scattered abrasions, scratches, oxidation, and areas of finish loss consistent with age and field use. The left-side Heer decal remains strong and displays the characteristic German national eagle above a swastika on a dark shield-shaped field. The decal shows light age cracking and localized wear while retaining excellent definition through the eagle’s feathers, body, and talons. The opposite side retains no national shield, consistent with the single-decal configuration. Interior markings include a clearly stamped lot number 1623 at the rear skirt, along with a partially visible maker/size stamp that appears consistent with ET64, indicating manufacture by Eisenhuettenwerke Thale in size 64. The helmet retains its leather liner, which shows age, dryness, cracking, and areas of loss, particularly along the lower edge and several tongues. The liner band and attachment hardware remain present. This is a desirable and increasingly difficult-to-find WWII German Heer combat helmet with a strong surviving eagle decal, visible production markings, and attractive untouched field character.
