Lot 464:
Description
WWII German M35 DD Ordnungspolizei Helmet Shell, ET64. Offered here is a WWII German Model 1935 Stahlhelm manufactured by Eisenhuettenwerke Thale and marked ET64, denoting Thale manufacture and a size 64 shell. The helmet is configured as an early double-decal Ordnungspolizei helmet and retains the distinctive police eagle decal on the left side, together with remnants of the NSDAP party shield on the opposite side. Polizei M35 helmets were issued to uniformed German police formations during the prewar and early-war period and utilized the same basic combat-shell construction as those issued to the Wehrmacht. The shell displays the defining features of the M35 pattern, including a fully rolled rim and separately inserted ventilation bushings. The left-side decal consists of the black shield bearing the silver-white Ordnungspolizei eagle and wreath device, which remains readily identifiable despite considerable service wear and age. The opposite side retains partial red-and-white remnants of the original NSDAP party shield. The exterior features a dark field-grey to green finish with extensive signs of service, including scratches, abrasions, scattered oxidation, and finish loss concentrated around the crown and rim. The interior is finished to match and bears the clear ET64 maker and size marking, along with an additional production lot number. This desirable early-pattern German police helmet shell remains a strong study example, capturing the aesthetic of double-decal configurations issued before wartime production simplifications.
