Lot 66:
Description
Mixed Lot of German Shoulder Boards – Heer, Luftwaffe, Police and Field-Grade Types, Including Matching Pairs. A mixed lot of German shoulder boards and straps spanning NCO infantry, artillery, cavalry or Luftwaffe, Feldgendarmerie, and field-grade braid types, and including at least two matching pairs among the group. Across the top row, from left to right, the first is a Heer infantry NCO slip-on in field-grey wool with white piping and aluminum tresse, two silver pips marking Oberfeldwebel, the buttonhole still present and the stitching loosened from wear. Next is a pointed officer board in striped silver-grey braid on scarlet underlay, two gilt pips and a large silver button identifying a Hauptmann of Artillery, an early pointed form with a metal tongue on the reverse in the Reichswehr-to-early-Wehrmacht manner. The third is a blue-and-gold herringbone officer board with one silver pip and a gilt button, dark-blue tip and red backing, a junior-officer grade in an Imperial state-chevron or interwar police style. Fourth is a gold herringbone Russia-braid board with one silver pip for Oberleutnant, the yellow underlay pointing to Heer cavalry or Luftwaffe flying troops. Fifth is silver Russia braid on orange wool with two gilt pips, a Hauptmann of the Heer Feldgendarmerie in the sought-after military-police Waffenfarbe, slip-on construction with the top edge frayed. Along the bottom row are silver Russia-braid boards on white infantry-style underlay with gilt pips, including matching pair examples of this pattern, together with a gilt bronze plaited field-grade board on yellow underlay with no pips for Major of cavalry or Luftwaffe, a silver plaited field-grade board on uncommon teal underlay of Major equivalent, and a silver plaited field-grade board on bright green underlay for Major of Jaeger, Gebirgsjaeger, or Ordnungspolizei, the green wool torn at the top. Condition is used throughout, with loose or missing stitching, frayed wool, oxidized pips, and incomplete tongues or buttons on some pieces. A wide-ranging lot with several desirable branch colors and at least two matching pairs in one hammer.
