December 7th Militaria and Aviation Auction
Lot 219:
Description
This lot features a unique and highly desirable piece of Vietnam War military culture: an Original US Air Force USAF Pilot Party Suit or G-Suit Shell, customized and worn by an aviator. These non-regulation, often brightly colored, coveralls were famously worn by fighter and bomber crews at social gatherings, unofficial functions, and sometimes around the flight line, symbolizing squadron camaraderie and distinction.
The suit is constructed from a lightweight, bright red synthetic fabric in a short-sleeved coverall pattern and is marked with white piping on the collar. The front features a vertical zipper closure and minimal pockets, maintaining a clean look for decoration.
The suit is highly personalized with professional embroidery and patches. Embroidered on the chest is the pilot s name, PETE GRAFF, positioned below a silver and white Pilot Wing insignia. The suit is adorned with two distinct squadron patches: a shield-shaped patch for the 67th Tactical Fighter Squadron TFS with its unique rooster/chicken emblem, and a round patch for WILD WEASEL, an iconic program of the Vietnam War dedicated to Suppression of Enemy Air Defenses SEAD, which is often associated with the 67th TFS or similar units. The short-sleeved nature of the suit and the specific unit patches strongly place this artifact in the Vietnam War or post-Vietnam era in Southeast Asia.
