Description

A genuinely rare and short-lived piece of World War II U.S. Army field gear, this is an original M-1942 Camouflage Uniform Jacket. This uniform was part of an early, unsuccessful attempt by the Army to adopt a camouflage uniform in 1942, famously seeing limited use in Normandy where it was quickly recalled due to friendly fire incidents. The jacket is constructed from durable Herringbone Twill HBT fabric featuring the five-color Frogskin or Duck Hunter camouflage pattern. It is clearly identifiable as the Army pattern due to its design featuring four large patch pockets with pointed flaps two on the chest and two at the hip and its non-reversible construction with a white or cream-colored lining. The jacket exhibits heavy, honest use and staining, particularly visible on the interior lining, attesting to its service life. This particular camouflage is highly sought after because of its limited issue and withdrawal from the European Theater of Operations, making it a unique and historical artifact for any advanced collector of WWII U.S. Army uniforms.
