Description

This is a pristine example of the United States Navy Type G-1 Intermediate Flight Jacket, dating to the post-Vietnam Cold War era of the 1970s. Manufactured under the military specification MIL-J-7823E AS , this jacket represents the specific iteration of flight gear worn by Naval Aviators during the early years of the F-14 Tomcat program. The -E- series is instantly recognizable to collectors by its white paper-style specification label, a departure from the woven black tags of the 1950s and 60s.
The jacket is constructed from durable dark brown goatskin leather that retains a nearly new luster, suggesting it saw little to no flight time. It features the standardized dark brown synthetic -Dynel- fur collar, which became the norm for this specification to improve durability and resistance to salt water. Standard features include the two lower button-down patch pockets with a pen slot in the left pocket flap, a heavy-duty brass zipper, and the classic bi-swing back. The original wool knit cuffs and waistband are in remarkable condition, retaining their elasticity and showing virtually no pilling or insect damage. This Size 40 jacket is a textbook example of the -Top Gun- era G-1, perfect for display or casual wear.
