Description
This World War I-era patriotic portrait features a United States Army soldier, often referred to as a Doughboy. The item consists of a hand-tinted photographic portrait integrated into a printed patriotic background. The subject is posed in a standard-issue M1917 high-collar service tunic and a campaign hat featuring a branch-of-service cord. A circular US collar disk is visible on the soldier’s right collar, confirming service in the United States Army. The decorative background includes a spread-wing eagle at the apex, a blue field with white stars, and vertical red and white stripes flanking the central image. The patriotic slogan FOR LIBERTY is printed at the bottom of the composition. The portrait is presented in its original period oval frame with a matte gilt finish and an ornate inner bead molding. The frame retains its original convex bubble glass. The reverse side features a cardboard backing secured with small nails and an older hanging wire.
