Description

This is a World War II era radio control unit manufactured for the U.S. Army Signal Corps. The device is identified on the rear data plate as a Control Box BC-1156-A, Serial No. 263, with a date code of 1230-DAY-44. It was produced by Argus Incorporated. The unit features a light-colored metal alloy housing with a black-coated faceplate. The interface includes a central knurled metal joystick, an OFF/ON toggle switch, an ADVANCE/RESET switch, two indicator light sockets labeled LEFT and RIGHT, and a rotary VOLUME knob. The side panel includes two large multi-pin circular connectors labeled AZON and G B AND RAZON, along with a smaller threaded connector. A metal plate on the side is inscribed with instructions to REMOVE BRACKET FOR RAZON and G B and REPLACE FOR AZON. Additional stamped instructions on the side read PLACE AZON BRACKET HERE WHEN NOT IN USE. An orange-red square stamp on the rear contains the characters AC over 4883. This type of controller was utilized for providing radio-controlled steering commands to early guided munitions such as the AZON (Azimuth Only) and RAZON (Range and Azimuth) systems.
