Lot 131A:
Description
This is a United States military M11A2 practice rifle grenade, a training device utilized during World War II. The item is constructed of steel and retains a portion of its original olive drab finish. The design consists of a two-part assembly featuring a rounded, smooth-sided nose cone that unscrews from the main cylindrical body. The body is characterized by a series of circular vent holes positioned around the mid-section. The rear of the grenade features a long tail boom that terminates in a fixed stabilizer fin assembly. The main body displays a white stenciled marking in two lines reading RIFLE GRENADE. The tail boom contains a faint incised mark reading INERT. These devices were manufactured as non-explosive training aids to simulate the weight and flight characteristics of live fragmentation or anti-tank rifle grenades when fired from M7 launchers on the M1 Garand or M1 carbine.
