Lot 143:
Description

The headstall is constructed from heavy leather straps and includes two square leather cheek flaps. Each flap is mounted with a circular brass boss featuring the letters U and S in raised relief. Included is a leather heart-shaped fob, commonly associated with martingale or breast-strap assemblies, which is attached to an iron ring. One side of the heart displays decorative hand-stitching consisting of a central six-pointed star motif within a border of elongated oval stitches. The hardware consists of period-correct iron buckles and adjustment loops.
