Description
This US Army Model 1904 infantry haversack is constructed of heavy khaki canvas. The front flap features a centered black stencil reading U.S. The reverse side is fitted with two heavy-gauge wire hooks designed for attachment to a Model 1903 or 1904 cartridge belt. A single canvas closure strap with metal grommets extends from the bottom of the bag to secure the main flap. The interior contains various compartments for field rations and equipment, including two internal leather straps intended to secure a meat can or other gear. The interior flap bears a three-line ink stamp with the top line arched reading ROCK ISLAND, the second line reading ARSENAL, and the third line reading 1909.
