Spring Military Aviation and Militaria Auction
Lot 181:
Description
This collection consists of United States military flight gear from the early Cold War period, specifically associated with the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Navy. The primary component is a back-type personnel parachute container manufactured by M. Steinthal and Co. The pack is constructed from heavyweight olive drab and tan canvas and nylon blend fabric. It features multiple metal snap-fastener flaps, internal bungee cords for deployment, and a zippered compartment. Stenciled markings on the interior green flap identify it as a 28 Ft. Style Chute with automatic opening capabilities. The exterior flap bears a partial part number 50J68 and a date of manufacture stamp. Also included is a partial sage green flight garment, identified as a CSU-series anti-G suit. This component features heavy-duty metal zippers and a reinforced rubberized pneumatic hose with a metal coupling designed for connection to an aircraft’s life support system. Completing the group is a Department of Defense Flight Information Publication titled Terminal (High Altitude) Northeast United States, dated September 1, 1963. The manual bears the seals of the Department of the Air Force and is marked for both U.S. Air Force and U.S. Navy use.
