Description
This is a United States Army Air Forces (USAAF) Type A-9 demand oxygen mask, short pattern, manufactured in January 1942. The facepiece is constructed from molded greenish-drab rubber and features an integrated corrugated rubber breathing tube with a metal bayonet-style connector. The head harness consists of adjustable elasticized canvas straps with blackened metal hardware and clips. The front center of the rubber mask features an embossed circular marking containing the following text: FOR USE WITH DEMAND REGULATOR ONLY, MASK-OXYGEN, TYPE A-9-SHORT, SPEC NO. 3125, ORDER NO. W 535 AC-24003, DATE OF MNFR 1-42, PROPERTY AIR FORCE, U.S. ARMY. Included with the mask is an original instruction booklet titled INSTRUCTIONS for the TYPE A-9 OXYGEN MASK FOR USE WITH DEMAND TYPE REGULATOR ONLY, featuring the USAAF winged propeller insignia, and a small paper warning slip.
