Description
This is a US Navy Model NAF 1092-73 intermediate-weight leather flight helmet produced during World War II. The exterior is constructed from dark brown pebbled-grain goatskin leather featuring a multi-panel crown with reinforced stitching. The interior is lined with buff-colored chamois. The helmet includes side-mounted leather goggle straps and an integrated leather chin strap secured by a single-prong metal roller buckle. An interior black cloth label is sewn into the lining with gold-colored embroidered text. The label reads NAF 1092-73, CONT. NOS. 1020 A, and H.L.B. CORP. N.Y. This model was designed to Naval Aircraft Factory specifications for use by US Navy and Marine Corps aviators. This specific example was manufactured by the H.L.B. Corporation based in New York.
