Description
A United States Air Force Type P-1A protective flight helmet manufactured by Lite Manufacturing Co. This early jet-age design features a white-painted hard shell constructed of fiberglass-reinforced resin. The exterior right side displays a decal of the winged star Hap Arnold insignia above the text U. S. AIR FORCES. The helmet is equipped with black metal snaps on both sides for oxygen mask attachment, an adjustable chin strap, and an integrated communication cord with a standard plug. The interior contains a brown leather-edged webbing sling suspension system and integrated fleece-lined ear cups for communication headphones. A black fabric label is sewn to the suspension webbing and reads: SLING ASSEMBLY FOR HELMET, FLYING, PILOTS PROTECTIVE, TYPE P-1A, SIZE LARGE, DWG. NO. 47D3185-1, CONT. AF 33(038)11185, LITE MFG. CO. The circular leather crown pad is stamped in white with the winged star insignia and the text U. S. AIR FORCES, along with a partially illegible circular inspector stamp.
