This is a World War II era US M1 helmet liner constructed of high-pressure molded fiber composite. The exterior surface is finished in yellow paint and serves as a medium for numerous hand-inked inscriptions, signatures, and service locations. The crown is inscribed with the dedication TO DONALD. Notable inscriptions include SGT. MASD. STARNES, NORTH AFRICA / ORAN / ALGIERS, T/SGT EDWARD SOX / ROSELAND ILL., CPL. L.W. HYDRICK / ITALY, and H.C.J. HARRINGTON / PEARL HARBOR / HONOLULU, T.H. The liner documents various theaters of operation including North Africa, Italy, and Hawaii. Ranks and ratings from both the US Army and US Navy are present, such as 1ST SGT C.A. ARRINGTON, NICK MOROZ – G.M. 3/C, and PFC OTIS WEAVER. Slogans such as destination Tokio – Berlin are also visible. The liner retains its original steel washers for the interior suspension system.
