Description
German Model 1940 (M40) steel combat helmet (Stahlhelm) produced for the Luftwaffe. The shell features a rolled edge and integral, embossed ventilation holes characteristic of the M40 pattern. The exterior retains a textured, dark blue-grey Schiefergrau finish. A single second-pattern Luftwaffe eagle (Adler) decal is applied to the left side, depicting the eagle in flight clutching a swastika. The interior contains an M31 leather liner system secured by a zinc liner band and three original split-pin rivets with washers. A partial leather chinstrap remains attached to the left side bale. The side inner skirt is stamped with the manufacturer code and shell size NS64, identifying production by Vereinigten Deutsche Nickelwerke in Schwerte. The rear inner skirt is stamped with the factory production lot number D243.
