Description
This is an original World War II era US Navy M-421A summer flying jacket. The interior neck label identifies the garment as Jackets, Flying, Summer, Bu.Aero. U.S. Navy, Specification M-421A, manufactured by Popular Mfg. Co., N.Y.C. under contract NOs-420A. The jacket is constructed from light-tan cotton twill and features a full-length metal zipper closure. Design elements include a pointed collar, two large lower bellows pockets with button-down flaps, and diamond-shaped reinforcement patches at the elbows. The reverse features a bi-swing action back with an internal elastic belt. A rectangular dark brown leather name tag is sewn to the left breast, featuring gold-toned embossed Naval Aviator wings above the name K L BROWN and the branch USN. The size is indicated as 44 on a separate woven tab below the main label.
