Description
A United States Navy Type G-1 intermediate flight jacket manufactured by L.W. Foster Sportswear Co. Inc. under contract N383-22356A. The jacket is constructed from dark brown goatskin leather and features a brown mouton fur collar. Design elements include a bi-swing back for increased mobility, two front patch pockets with button-down flaps, and a wool-knit waistband and cuffs. The interior is finished with a brown rayon or acetate lining and contains a single internal map pocket. A woven manufacturer label is present at the interior neck and reads: BUREAU OF AERONAUTICS, USN / FLIGHT JACKET, INTERMEDIATE, G-1 / SPECIFICATION MIL-J-7823 (AER) / AMENDMENT #2 / L.W. FOSTER SPORTSWEAR CO. INC. / CONTRACT N383-22356A / 38. The left chest bears a circular embroidered squadron patch for the 71st Fighter Interceptor Squadron, a United States Air Force unit. The patch depicts a winged mailed fist holding a red and yellow rocket on a blue field, surrounded by a yellow border with a scroll at the base reading 71st FTR. INTCP. SQ.
