Description
Scarce Tank Destroyer satin pillow sham from Camp Hood. This is a World War II era US Army sweetheart souvenir pillow sham or banner, a type of homefront memorabilia typically sent to family members by service personnel. The item is constructed from a light-colored, lustrous satin fabric, likely rayon or silk, and is finished with a multi-colored decorative fringe border. The decorative elements and text are applied using screen-printing or flocking techniques. The layout includes the Great Seal of the United States in orange tones above a red banner marked U.S. ARMY. To the right, the text reads Greetings From CAMP HOOD TEXAS. The lower left section features the official insignia of the Tank Destroyer Force, which depicts a black panther crushing a tank in its jaws, encircled by the unit motto SEEK STRIKE DESTROY. The right side of the field contains a sentimental poem dedicated to a sister, reading: Dear Sister! Do I think of you, Dear Sister A million times a day! Do I love my little Sister? Much more than I can say.
