Lot 365B:
Description
This original World War II-era political cartoon is executed in charcoal and ink on heavy wove paper. Titled Bent and Blunted in pencil along the upper margin, the illustration depicts a large mallet labeled Allied Force impacting and bending a Nazi Spearhead held by a German soldier in uniform. The impact causes the soldier’s helmet to fly off, and the scene is accented with several stars. The work is signed in the lower right Carmack, for American cartoonist Paul Carmack. The drawing is characteristic of mid-20th-century editorial art, featuring bold ink lines and textured charcoal shading. Typical of production art intended for publication, small applications of white corrective fluid are visible around the central figures. An editorial mark, a stylized A, is present in pencil below the signature.Dimensions not provided.
