Description
This collection consists of ten cast iron still banks featuring a variety of animal and architectural forms, attributed to prominent late 19th and early 20th-century American manufacturers such as A.C. Williams Co., Hubley Manufacturing Co., and Kenton Hardware Co. The animal figures include a standing lion with a gold-toned finish, a standing sheep with a silvery-gray finish, a seated rabbit with a dark japanned or painted finish, and a standing pig with a gold finish and red-painted snout. These animal figures are two-piece castings joined by a single side-entry screw. The architectural and safe banks include a large three-section state bank with a central dome, a building with a rounded facade embossed with the letters BANK, a rectangular safe bank featuring ornate scrollwork and the letters SAFE on the door, a multi-story skyscraper bank embossed with BANK above the entrance, a square building with a domed cupola, and a towered building with a spire. Each piece features a stationary coin slot. Several pieces retain small white inventory stickers on their bases or back panels.
