Description
A Louis Marx – Co. O gauge mechanical train set titled Streamlined Train. The set features a black Commodore Vanderbilt streamlined locomotive constructed of pressed steel and tin-plate, equipped with a start/stop lever and an internal sparkling mechanism. The collection includes four lithographed tin-plate cars: a black tender, a red and black gondola, a yellow Santa Fe / Middle States Oil tank car, and a red caboose. Also included is a group of curved tin-plate track sections. The set is housed in its original cardboard box which displays vibrant lithographed graphics of several streamlined trains. Supporting documentation includes an original instruction sheet titled Instructions for Commodore Vanderbilt Sparkling Mechanical Train Sets and a Marx Accessories advertising flyer. A vintage J.C. Penney Co. price sticker is affixed to the underside of the box indicating a contemporary price of 98 cents. The manufacturer mark Louis Marx – Co. 200-5th Avenue, New York, N.Y. U.S.A. and the circular MAR logo are present on the box lid and instructions.
