Description
This lot features two early 20th-century beaded evening bags displaying characteristic Art Deco styling. The first item is a drawstring reticule pouch constructed of micro glass seed beads on a textile foundation. The design features a central floral motif with orange, blue, and green beads set against a variegated background of bronze, gold, and silver-toned beads. The base of the pouch is finished with a tiered, looped bead fringe in white and bronze tones. It closes with a purple fabric ribbon drawstring. The second item is a frame-top evening bag featuring swirling vertical stripes of amber-gold and charcoal-black glass seed beads on a yellow fabric foundation. The bag is mounted to an ornate, embossed silver-tone metal frame decorated with scrolling floral and foliate motifs. It includes a kiss-lock closure and an attached silver-tone chain-link handle. The lower portion of the bag is embellished with a dense, tiered fringe of long bead loops in alternating colors. The interior is lined with a mustard-yellow fabric. No maker marks, hallmarks, or country of origin stamps are visible on either piece.
