Description
A mid-20th century French evening bag featuring a gathered black silk or satin fabric body. The front of the purse is decorated with multi-colored floral embroidery executed in silk threads of pink, blue, yellow, orange, and green. The gold-tone metal frame is densely embellished with rows of white glass seed beads in a textured pattern. Inset into the top of the frame are three oval porcelain plaques, each hand-painted with fte galante scenes of figures in 18th-century dress. A matching fourth porcelain plaque is set into the ornamental front clasp. The bag is equipped with a gold-tone metal snake chain handle. The interior is lined in black fabric and contains one slip pocket. A fabric label is sewn into the interior pocket and is printed with the text MADE IN FRANCE.
