Description

This lot consists of six individual tobacco packaging items representing prominent American brands from the early to mid-20th century. The collection includes brands from Kentucky and North Carolina origins, featuring a variety of packaging materials including paper, cardboard, and muslin cloth. Two packages of Five Brothers’ Pipe Smoking Tobacco are included, originally produced by John Finzer and Bros. and later by The American Tobacco Co. as successor. One rectangular paper-wrapped block is tied with original white string and features an intact Series 114 U.S. Internal Revenue tax stamp for 1 3/4 ounces of tobacco. This stamp bears a portrait of Benjamin Franklin and a hand-stamped cancellation date of February 26, 1926, noting Factory No. 27, District of Kentucky. The second Five Brothers’ package is a paper wrap marked with a net weight of 1 1/4 ounces. Heine’s Blend is represented by two items: one rectangular cardboard box and one soft paper pack. Both feature light blue illustrated graphics depicting a man in traditional Dutch clothing standing before a windmill, labeled as Mild and Mellow Smoking Tobacco. The collection also includes two drawstring cloth pouches. The Duke’s Mixture Smoking Tobacco pouch, manufactured by Liggett and Myers Tobacco Co. of Durham, North Carolina, features a yellow paper label with a red serrated seal and includes an original blue booklet of Tip Cigarette Paper tucked into the side band. The Our Advertiser Smoking Tobacco pouch, manufactured by R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, features a dark blue and black label and is currently housed in a protective plastic sleeve. Weights as labeled: 1 3/4 oz, 1 1/4 oz.
