Description
This collection includes several varieties of vintage American tobacco packaging, featuring both smoking and chewing blends from the early to mid-20th century. The first item is a Royal Kensington English Type Blend pouch produced by Arthur M. Doty, Inc., 1199 Broadway, New York, New York. This paper and foil soft-pack pouch features blue and black typography over a faux-wood grain background. The reverse side retains a blue U.S. Internal Revenue tax stamp marked Series 107 for 1 1/4 ounces of tobacco. The second item is a Cooper’s Half Sweet Chewing Tobacco package from Cooper and Co., Lancaster, Pennsylvania. It is a white paper package with bold red and blue block lettering, marked as Factory No. 72, PA. with a net weight of 1 1/2 oz. The third item is a Marconi Brand Trinciato Fermentato tobacco package produced by the Italian Cigar and Tobacco Co., Inc., Brooklyn, New York. This paper-wrapped block contains fermented tobacco made from Kentucky and Tennessee leaf. The front is decorated with a portrait of a man and sunburst motifs. The reverse includes a blue-green revenue stamp for one ounce and a red promotional sticker with an offer date extended to December 31, 1937. The fourth item is a Genuine Durham Smoking Tobacco cloth drawstring pouch by W. T. Blackwell and Co. Blackwell’s Durham Tob. Co., Succ’r , Durham, North Carolina. This pouch features the classic Bull Durham logo on the front label. The reverse side displays an orange label for rolling papers, marked with a patent date of October 12, 1915, secured by a purple band.
