Description
An American sterling silver vesta case or match safe manufactured by the Whiting Manufacturing Co. of Newark, New Jersey. The rectangular case features a side-hinged lid and rounded corners, decorated with chased scrolling foliate and undulating wave motifs. Two sets of raised reeded bands encircle the body. One side of the case is personalized with the name Dora Bennett engraved in a flowing cursive script. The bottom edge is equipped with a serrated striker plate for friction matches. The interior rim is stamped with the manufacturer mark for Whiting Manufacturing Co., featuring a winged lion within a circle, followed by the word STERLING and the numerical pattern mark 12 1/2.
