Description
Two vintage souvenir metal matchbook covers, attributed to the J.E. Mergott Co. JemCo based on the patent markings. The first cover is a copper-toned sleeve featuring an embossed oval medallion depicting the Salt Lake Temple in Salt Lake City, Utah. The medallion is inscribed with the text MORMON TEMPLE and SALT LAKE CITY. The reverse side is stamped at the bottom edge with the patent dates PATENTED APR. 26, 1921 OCT. 23, 1928. The second cover is a brass-toned sleeve commemorating the 1939 New York World’s Fair. The front face is etched with the fair’s iconic Trylon and Perisphere logo and the text NEW YORK WORLD’S FAIR. The reverse side features a struck circular medallion in relief depicting the profile of George Washington, inscribed with 150th ANNIVERSARY GEORGE WASHINGTON INAUGURATION. Both covers are constructed of metal and designed to house standard-sized paper matchbooks.
