Description
This antique machinist tool chest is constructed from quartersawn oak featuring a prominent grain pattern. The chest is configured with eight felt-lined drawers: two small drawers on the upper left, three small drawers on the upper right, and three graduated full-width drawers below. It includes a removable front panel that stows beneath the bottom drawer when the chest is in use. Hardware includes metal corner guards, small metal drawer pulls, and a central lock with a provided key. A circular metal lock plate is mounted on the front panel. A leather-covered handle is mounted to the top by metal brackets. An oval metal emblem is present on the front of the bottom long drawer, though the characters are not clearly legible. Given the specific construction and layout, the piece is attributed to H. Gerstner and Sons.
