Description
The smaller Pagoda sleeves on this taffeta day dress reflects the transitional styling between the late 1860s fullness and the early 1870s slimmer silhouette. The fiddle back construction mark it as late Civil War period . The back of the bodice split peplum and the low rounded collar are also common in Civil War fashion. The sleeves are attached to the shoulder with a surprisingly thin piping and the ruffles are all intact. The skirt is flat front and the back very generously pleated. The entire garment is in remarkable condition and could, in theory, be wearable.
