Description

This is an exceptional and comprehensive lot of US Army Armored Division Insignia centering on the famous 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Armored Divisions, offering a deep specialization in US armor history. The collection includes approximately 75 individual pieces, featuring a wide variety of patches, tabs, collar brass, and unit crests.

The highlight of the collection is the proliferation of both patches and tabs for the 2nd Armored Division, known as HELL ON WHEELS. Included are multiple large embroidered triangular patches HELL ON WHEELS with the red, blue, and yellow quadrants, some bearing numerical designations 2 and 12 and one with a large embroidered tab HELL ON WHEELS. A particularly prominent piece is the large triangular patch marked 3 RCN, identifying it as the 3rd Reconnaissance Battalion of an armored division. Similarly, the 1st Armored Division OLD IRONSIDES is heavily represented with multiple triangular patches, including an embroidered 1 and many small metal OLD IRONSIDES unit crests. The 3rd Armored Division SPEARHEAD is also included with several triangular patches marked 3 and numerous embroidered SPEARHEAD tabs.

The lot features an extensive range of supporting insignia. This includes three highly distinctive screaming panther/cat patches likely from the 81st Armored Regiment, multiple cavalry pins 91st CAVALRY RECON CO., and various Armored Unit Collar Brass in both brass and silver tone, showing tanks and crossed cannons. Of particular note are the multiple embroidered skill tabs and rockers, such as THE ARMOR SCHOOL, LONE STAR, and GRIZZLY 40th Armored Division, and two metal 64TH ARMOR insignia. The inclusion of WWII-era collar insignia and various regimental pins like 72ND ARMOR provides outstanding historical depth. This collection offers a unique and highly specialized opportunity to acquire a vast inventory of authentic armored forces insignia.
