December 7th Militaria and Aviation Auction
Lot 124:
Description
U.S. Navy binoculars from the World War II era, complete with their original black leatherette carrying case. The binoculars are clearly marked on the eyepiece plate as U.S. NAVY BUSHIPS MARK I MOD E and are stamped with the manufacturer BAUSCH & LOMB, one of the key U.S. optical contractors during the war. Crucially, the binoculars are dated 1941, indicating they were manufactured and issued just as the United States entered the conflict. This model was standard issue for officers and lookouts aboard U.S. Navy ships, used for submarine spotting and surface action observation throughout the Atlantic and Pacific theaters. The binoculars are finished in black, feature adjustable eyecups, and show heavy, authentic patina and wear consistent with harsh use at sea. They are housed in their original black leatherette carrying case which retains its strap and reinforces the historical provenance as a complete, field-used set of U.S. Naval equipment.
