Hubert R. Vance served as a member of the 103rd Anti-Aircraft Artillery Battalion, assigned to the 1st Infantry Division During World War II. He would earn the Soldier’s Medal for life-saving actions in Sicily.The grouping includes Vance’s Soldier’s Medal that has been engraved with his rank, name, and unit. The rim is numbered “6597.” The pendant has been mounted to the drape with the engraving showing. This is easily converted back if the buy so desires. Included in the group is a Good Conduct Medal and American Defense Medal. Also in the group are an AA Command shoulder patch and a 1st Infantry Division SSI. There is also a pair of T-5 chevrons, five overseas bars, a Driver’s badge with “Driver W” bar, a Marksman badge with Rifle bar, a screw back Coast Artillery EM collar brass, a set of Wolff Brown ribbons, Vance’s High School Ring, one dog tag, Vance’s ID card, and a religious medal. There is also a pocket unit history of the 1st Division and a Soldier’s Guide to Sicily with a number of pull out maps. The grouping also includes Vance’s high school ring and a “Ruptured Duck” lapel button. The grouping includes a copy of Vance’s discharge and a copy of a set of orders sending him for R&R during the war.
