Description

This desirable Rough Wear A-2 flight jacket, contract size 44, features a direct-painted 782nd Bomb Squadron insignia on the right chest—an iconic and hard-to-find detail. The interior lining retains a faint but legible name stencil, along with a partial service number, offering excellent research potential. The lining, label, cuffs, and waistband are in average condition, and may have been replaced during or post-service. The leather remains soft and pliable, a testament to its care and preservation. The back of the jacket shows evidence of a once large painted image and a substantial sewn-on patch, likely similar to those popular in the Italian campaign, which often covered most of the jacket’s reverse. Sadly, neither survived, but traces remain and suggest a colorful history. Additional signs of a name strip and squadron or group patch once adorned the left chest. Classic A-2, combat-theater artifact with excellent display appeal and rich historical and research value. A standout piece for the collector of WWII Army Air Forces memorabilia. The 782nd Bomb Squadron was part of the 465th Bomb Group, 15th AAF.
