Lot 236:
Description
Amazing example of high fashion in the mid 1870s. Has clearly been altered to fit a subsequent wearer but the alterations are exceptionally well executed. A mix of machine and hand sewing, hand-sewn button holes, beautiful lacy neck detail with hand embellishment. Solid construction and the stay belt is intact. Well exectuted gathers at the elbow for shaping and movement. An abundance of pleating in the back of the skirt and the sweep is generous. Silk decotation and piping are in great condition and the fringe is unusual but beautiful. Overall in excellent condition. Wearable if you are the right size.
