December 7th Militaria and Aviation Auction
Lot 1:
Description
This extensive lot offers a comprehensive collection of original US Army insignia and patches, with a strong focus on the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment ACR and various artillery units. The lot includes a total of approximately 25 individual items, perfect for the militaria collector specializing in post-WWII US military history and armor. The core of the collection centers on the 3rd ACR, symbolized by their distinctive motto TOUJOURS PRET Always Ready. Included are two large, highly detailed embroidered round patches and two small lapel pins featuring the regiments crest, which consists of a fleur-de-lis and a cannon wheel on a blue and yellow field.
The collection is further highlighted by a significant grouping of D.I. Dismounted Insignia or unit crests for the 3rd ACR, with one pin featuring the word SPEARHEAD for a subordinate unit. Artillery units are heavily represented, with eight distinct miniature crossed cannon pins, including several in bright gold-tone metal, which typically denote field artillery, a core component of armored cavalry. There is a cluster of smaller, enameled pins including several colorful triangular flags, which are frequently associated with armor or signal corps units.
The lot also features several pieces of uniform hardware, including two heavy, gold-tone uniform belt buckles with adjustable slides and two smaller belt slides, adding to the breadth of the collection. Additionally, the collection contains two large Squadron or Regimental patches, one of which is a large square felt patch with an embroidered white lion, and another is a green and gold design. A plastic bag holds supplemental items including a large 745th unit decal or patch graphic, a miniature badge, and a small blue velvet book or case. This collection offers an excellent variety of badges, pins, patches, and hardware, providing a fantastic foundation or expansion for a US Army unit insignia collection.
