Description

This is an exceptional and highly prestigious example of the United States Distinguished Flying Cross DFC, presented in its original, fitted presentation case, dating from the World War II era. The exterior of the case is black leatherette with gold tooling and is clearly marked DISTINGUISHED FLYING CROSS on the lid. The interior is lined with a yellow velvet or satin fabric, contoured to perfectly secure the bronze cross, its ribbon bar, and the miniature lapel pin. The DFC was established in 1926 and was widely awarded during World War II for heroism or extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight, making it one of the highest military decorations for aviation achievement. Crucially, the reverse of the suspension pin or mounting bar is stamped with the clear control number 6683, identifying this as an officially issued, numbered award. The complete set is in exceptional, near-mint condition, retaining its original bright gold finish and vibrant ribbon color, with the preservation of the original presentation box, all accessories, and the clear control number significantly enhancing its value to collectors of World War II aviation memorabilia.
