Lot 141:
Description
This is an authentic and remarkably complete example of a World War II U.S. Navy Bureau of Ordnance Illuminated Sight, Unissued in original box. Mark 9, Mod 1, presented in its original packaging with original instructions. This reflector sight was a critical component of naval aircraft and anti-aircraft gun systems, used to project a reticle onto a glass screen for accurate aiming during combat. The main body of the sight is stamped U.S. NAVYÑBU. OF ORD. ILLUMINATED SIGHT MK. 9 MOD. 1 and lists the manufacturer as AMERICAN CYSTOSCOPE MAKERS, Inc., New York. Crucially, the original box label is dated March 6, 1941, firmly establishing this piece as an early issue item from the U.S. buildup prior to Pearl Harbor. The sight unit itself features a robust black metal housing with a clear NIGHT-DAY-DIMMER switch and is marked with the voltage 21-6 C.P. O.S. 1233. The lot includes the sight s original brown cardboard box, complete with the detailed ordnance handling instructions , making this a superior, museum-quality artifact of U.S. Naval armament and optical technology from the outset of World War II.
