December 7th Militaria and Aviation Auction
Lot 142:
Description
World War II U.S. Army Air Forces Gun Sight, Type N-6A, presented in its original contract packaging. This specialized sight was used by bomber and gunner crews for aiming defensive machine guns against enemy aircraft. The sight is constructed of heavy metal, finished in a distinctive crinkle or speckled black paint, and features a large, rectangular optical window and various adjustment knobs and wiring ports. An identifying label on the side of the sight confirms the model designation U.S. ARMY AIR FORCES GUN SIGHT TYPE N-6A, listing the manufacturer as E. A. LABORATORIES, INC., Brooklyn, N.Y. U.S.A. The military provenance is further confirmed by the original cardboard box, which retains its informational label marked SIGHT, GUN TYPE N-6A, listing the Specification No. 24704A and ORDER No. W11 107 AC 143. The box also features a quality assurance stamp verifying its inspection. The sight itself is in excellent condition, with minimal wear to the paint, suggesting it was preserved shortly after manufacture or saw limited service. This item is a complete, documented, and fully boxed example of a crucial piece of U.S. WWII bomber armament.
