The hat band is secured with a brown leather chinstrap fastened by two small gold-toned buttons. The cap retains its original shape, showing light wear and minor creasing consistent with its age.
The interior provides exceptional and important provenance. The interior is lined with a smooth, gold-colored satin and features a large, detailed tailorÕs label for Sutfenborg Military & Civilian Tailors, New York, confirming it as a high-quality private purchase item. Crucially, the leather sweatband is inscribed with the owner s handwritten name and serial number: William E. Walker O-68766. This personalization allows for direct research into the officer. Research confirms that the service number O-68766 belongs to an officer named William E. Walker who served during the WWII era, a detail that greatly enhances the historical value of the cap.
