December 7th Militaria and Aviation Auction
Lot 260:
Description
This lot features a rare and highly specialized piece of modern military equipment: a complete Special Operations High Altitude Low Opening HALO Parachutist Helmet and Oxygen System. This type of protective headgear is utilized by elite military freefall teams for clandestine insertion at extremely high altitudes where supplemental oxygen is required.
The helmet is a protective Kevlar shell finished in a low-visibility light gray color. It features a streamlined shape to reduce wind resistance and is fitted with a specialized leather or synthetic padded interior for impact protection. The exterior is fitted with several strips of Velcro in black and olive green, used for attaching essential gear like night vision devices, counterweights, and identification patches. The shell displays clear signs of operational use and scuffing. A small, handwritten collector s tag attached to the harness identifies the helmet as SPEC OPS – HALO HELMET KEVLAR , confirming its specialized function.
The assembly is complete with the necessary life-support components. The mask is identified on the tag as an MBU-5/P Mask or similar variant, commonly adapted for HALO operations, and is attached via quick-release bayonets and webbing. The mask is connected to a green corrugated breathing hose which terminates in a specialized oxygen regulator valve for controlling the high-pressure oxygen supply during freefall. A small, flexible boom microphone and communications wiring are also present, essential for team coordination during descent.
This complete HALO system represents the cutting edge of modern aerial insertion technology and is an exceptionally scarce artifact of modern Special Operations forces.
