Lot 5:
Description
This extensive and highly focused lot features a remarkable collection of US Army Cavalry Insignia, concentrated heavily on the 1st Cavalry Division and its subordinate Regiments, including the 7th and 13th Cavalry Regiments. The collection comprises approximately 35 pieces of various ranks, unit crests, collar insignia, and patches, making it an excellent resource for the specialist collector of US Cavalry history.
The collection is highlighted by numerous examples of Cavalry Branch Insignia, consisting of crossed cavalry sabers. These include both the bronze-tone and black-tone crossed sabers, some of which feature regimental and company numerical and alphabetical designations, such as 7M, 7F, 7E, 7A, and 13K, identifying specific troops or companies within the 7th and 13th Cavalry. The regiments iconic motto GARRY OWEN is featured prominently on three detailed enameled unit crests, showing a mailed fist holding a sword over a horseshoe.
Unit identification is further solidified by multiple examples of the 1st Cavalry Division shield, featuring the black horses head on a yellow and black shield, presented as both enameled pins and uniform buttons. The collection also contains a highly valuable, large embroidered patch for the USCAR US Cavalry Reserve, dated 1833-1945 with the motto NOTHING IMPOSSIBLE. Another large, highly detailed patch featuring a sword and horseshoe is marked GARRY OWEN on an intricate blue and gold background. Additional rare pieces include a miniature metal cap device featuring a Cavalry cap, sabers, and chain, and multiple smaller pins featuring a stylized horse and rider. The collection is further enhanced by an original collectors card identifying a 1st Cavalry Recon Co. pin and a registered mailing card.
