Description

This personal archive documents the service of a United States Army Air Forces (USAAF) member within the European Theater of Operations (ETO) during 1944 and 1945. The collection consists of paper ephemera, black and white photographs, and postcards. Notable printed matter includes a Daily Mirror Servicemen’s Edition newspaper with the headline Allies Invade France, a large color luggage label for the Majestic 19 Avenue Kleber in Paris, a Casino de Paris program, a Folies Bergere orchestra seat ticket, and a Folies Cocktail promotional card. Military documentation includes a receipt from the Magasin Cooperatif d’Armee No. 2. The photographic portion of the archive contains over 30 black and white snapshots and postcards. Aircraft depicted include de Havilland Mosquitoes featuring British Royal Air Force roundels and a single-engine fighter bearing the fuselage code YF. Personnel are shown in various settings wearing Herringbone Twill (HBT) utility uniforms and flight gear, including group portraits and informal shots with jeeps. Geographic locations documented include London and liberated Paris, with views of the Arc de Triomphe, Notre Dame Cathedral, and a building marked as the Allied Troop Theater. Several images record the destruction of European buildings and urban war damage. The items are organized within modern plastic archival sleeves in a three-ring binder.
