Description

This is a World War II era US Army Medical Department 12-Unit First Aid Kit, manufactured by Davis Emergency Equipment Co., Inc. of Newark, New Jersey. The kit is housed in a rectangular olive drab painted steel field box designed for vehicle mounting. The exterior lid features white stenciled text reading FIRST AID and FOR EMERGENCY USE ONLY, centered around a circular decal depicting the Medical Department caduceus in red. The interior of the lid contains a paper instructional label titled FIRST AID IN ACCIDENTS, which includes a full inventory list and manufacturer attribution. The kit contains an assortment of period-correct medical supplies in original cardboard unit boxes, including a 4-inch gauze bandage, 4×4 inch gauze compress (Stock No. 9200300), 1-inch adhesive absorbent compresses (Unit No. 103-D), a triangular bandage, two burn injury sets, eye dressing (Unit No. 4), ten iodine applicators (P-K V2), a tourniquet, and an ammonia ampoule. The presence of Tannic Acid Burn Jelly on the inventory list identifies this as a mid-1940s procurement.
