Description
This is a US Army Aviator’s Individual First Aid Kit consisting of an olive drab canvas pouch and various medical supplies. The pouch is constructed from heavy canvas with a fold-over flap secured by two blackened metal snap fasteners. The reverse side features a wide integrated canvas belt loop for attachment to flight gear or a pistol belt. The face of the pouch is marked with black ink stamps including the US Army Medical Department caduceus symbol flanked by the letters U and S. Text markings identify the item as Case, Medical, Aviator’s Individual with a contract number of DSA-100-69-C, dating the piece to the 1969 fiscal year during the Vietnam War. The kit contains a group of period-correct medical items. These include one cardboard box for a 4 by 4 inch camouflaged gauze compress (Stock No. 6510-200-3080) and one cardboard box for a 37 by 37 by 52 inch compressed muslin bandage (Stock No. 6510-201-1755), both manufactured by Lily White Sales Co., Inc. Also included is a Mil-Pak Incorporated eye dressing kit (Stock No. 6545-853-6309) containing eye pads, adhesive strips, and ophthalmic ointment. A clear plastic accessory case holds a brown glass bottle with a white dropper cap and an orange plastic vial with a white cap. A separate wrapped gauze roll is also present.
