Description

This is a pair of US Army issue M15 pattern binoculars featuring 7x magnification and 50mm objective lenses. The right ocular plate is stamped with the designation BINOCULAR M15 followed by the contractor code H.M.R. and the production date 1944. A single letter C is also stamped near the right edge of the plate. The left ocular plate features yellow printed instructional text stating THIS INSTRUMENT HAS COATED OPTICS CLEAN LENSES CAREFULLY above a stamped 7 X 50 mark. The body is finished in a black textured pebbled vulcanite covering. The metal components, including the ocular tubes and plates, are finished in black enamel. The binoculars are fitted with large flared rubber eyecups and an attached leather neck strap. The M15 was a standardized model for the US Army Ordnance Department during the mid-to-late war period, featuring magnesium fluoride coated lenses to enhance light transmission and reduce glare.
