Description
This US Navy intermediate flight helmet is identified as the AV-475 pattern, a design utilized during the World War II era. The helmet is constructed from dark brown goatskin leather. It features prominent, circular, leather-covered ear cups designed to accommodate telephonic radio receivers. The exterior includes leather goggle retention straps secured with metal snap closures and reinforced side attachment points for an oxygen mask. An adjustable chin strap with a metal buckle is attached to the lower flaps. The exterior lower left side bears a white stenciled USN mark. The interior is lined with a dark textile fabric and contains a small black fabric label embroidered with the word MEDIUM in white.
